USC CENTER ON PUBLIC DIPLOMACY ANNOUNCES NEW DEPUTY DIRECTOR

LOS ANGELES – March 16, 2007 – Joshua Fouts, Director of the USC Center on Public Diplomacy, recently announced the arrival of Sherine Badawi Walton to fill the newly created position of Deputy Director.
In this position, Walton will be responsible for managing the growth of the Center and advancing its reputation as the leading institution devoted to developing and improving the global study and practice of public diplomacy in both higher education and public policy. She will oversee new research opportunities, outreach to the Center’s international constituents, and all programs and events at the Center.
“Sherine’s unique combination of professional skills, international experience, languages and cultural sensitivity make her uniquely qualified for this position,” said Fouts. “Since the Center was founded four years ago, we have participated in many truly exciting initiatives toward the improvement of Public Diplomacy worldwide. Sherine’s experience will significantly contribute to these efforts.”
Prior to joining the Center, Walton spent three years as director of Development at the USC Annenberg School for Communication, one of the country's premier journalism and communication schools. In this role, she oversaw the School's major gifts program, introduced a new membership group for planned giving donors and worked closely with the USC Center on Public Diplomacy to raise awareness and build support of its work.
Before her affiliation with USC, Walton was a Development Executive at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. She worked for The Metropolitan
Museum of Art, NY, in Development and in the Egyptian Art Department. She has also worked at the American University in Cairo and as a contributor to Paris City Magazine. She speaks English, French, and Arabic.
